Eric Anderson
 NAUI Instructor #7109L    SDI/TDI # 20434

My Dad and his friends taught me how to dive in 1963. Certification courses were not available here back then. I started my commercial career at a very young age by catching turtles and selling them to the kids at the resort. I took an opportunity to get certified with Marni in 1981. When the SCUBA shop in town shut down in 1985. we bought their compressor so I could continue my work and started filling tanks. Because of local interest in certification courses I completed my Instructor training in May of 1986, in Vancouver. The next week I started teaching two classes back in Alberta. I love to dive when and where ever I can. Because of an accident I now have allergies to chlorine and can't even go on the deck of the pool, but still enjoy diving on holidays, such as in the wrecks on the West Coast, the caves of Florida and Mexico, or in a pond close by. I just like to dive.

In Sept of 1980, Eric came home from work one day and was all excited and said "I signed us both up for Scuba Lessons." I looked at him and wasn't sure whether to be excited or scared. I had never had a chance to take swimming lessons and so this was a big step for me. I soon fell in love with the water in a new way and loved the fact that my nose was plugged and I could see. Then when we got the tanks on, I soon knew I was in love, but it took a dozen dives for me to calm down and really start to enjoy it. After all these years I still love just being in the water anywhere. I worked hard to learn to swim so I could pass my Instructor's certification in 1987. One of the greatest joys I have is seeing people go from being afraid and nervous to being like a fish slipping through the water. When people ask me where my favorite place to dive is I just say in the water: to me it really doesn't matter where.

I got into diving from taking a aptitude test in grade 11 that said I should be a Scuba Instructor. I looked into in while finishing grade 12 and decided to pursue it. I started my training in Sept 2007 on the Sunshine Coast and went from zero to hero. By spring of 2008 I got my Instructor's certification and traveled to Mexico and the Bahamas working and enjoying diving while living there. I returned home to Southern Alberta and started taking my schooling as a Massage Therapist and started teaching Scuba Classes part time in Lethbridge.

Shawn Janzen
 NAUI Instructor #52561

Ever since I was a kid, I have been called a fish because of my love for swimming. Five years ago, it was a real shock to me when my wife suggested that we needed a sport to do together as a couple and said we should take a scuba course. I said yes before she had finished talking! Once we had taken the course here in Lethbridge, we did our Open Waters certification in Hawaii. Since then we have been back to Hawaii a couple of times and to the Red Sea with Anderson's. Once I started diving, I couldn't get enough. It doesn't matter where or how cold the water is, when I am underneath the water, all the stress of the world disappears and I am at total peace with everything. I will dive until the day my body is too old to handle it, and that will be the saddest day of my life. I got my Dive Masters in Dec 2010 and have been able to help others get out and dive.

I spent most of my childhood at the bottom of swimming pools, always wanting to be able to stay under as long as I could. When I first learned of scuba diving I was hooked and knew that was what I wanted to do. My first introduction to scuba diving came when I started at the University of Alberta in the fall of 1995. I arrived on campus one late August day to stand in lines for Registration (no such thing as telephone or internet registration at the time!). After being funneled through each of the lines I finally emerged into the University Clubs sign-up section. The first club I saw was the Scuba Club, and I immediately signed up. I clearly remember pool sessions in the wave pool at the Water park WEM and frigid check-out dives in Jasper in October (we had icebergs floating above our heads). It is now 16 years later and I love diving just as much now as I did then. Warm water or cold, salt water or fresh, good-vis. or no-vis, I can still be found spending as much time as I can under water.

I have had an interest in diving as long as I can remember. In elementary school, I remember reading books about diving and always made it a goal of mine to become certified. That goal was finally realized in 2005 when I took the NAUI Basic Open Waters course. As expected I was instantly hooked. Since that time I have been gradually working my way up the ranks, learning and diving as much as I can. I received my NAUI Assistant Instructor rating early in 2010 which has allowed me to help other discover this great sport. For me, one of the best parts about diving is that no matter how many courses you take, or how many dives you do, there is always more to learn and experience.
